The holiday season just passed so that means many of us have new technology and devices such as phones that we are eager to set up. It is important to remember to transfer everything over such as your MFA apps so that you can still get into your accounts that require MFA. For the Microsoft Authenticator app, the process is very easy.

On Your Old Phone:

  1. Open the app on your old phone.
  2. Tap the three dots in the top right corner.
  3. Press "settings.” “Cloud Backup"/"iCloud Backup."

On Your New Phone:

  1. Install the Microsoft Authenticator App.
  2. In the app log into your account.
  3. Select the "Begin Recovery" option and your account. The setting will be added to your new phone.

If you are using the Google Authenticator the process is fairly similar. Start by downloading the app to your new phone. Open the app on your old phone, tap on the three dots in the top right corner of the screen, and click on the “transfer accounts” tab. On the next page, select “Export accounts” and choose the account information you want to transfer over. Verify the account and a QR code is created. On your new phone, click the three dots again, and the “transfer accounts” tab again. This time, select “Import accounts” and tap on “Scan a QR Code” and scan the code on your old phone.
