Last month I had the opportunity to listen to and meet Robert Herjavec, most famously known for his ABC Series “Shark Tank.” What many people don’t know is that Robert owns a $120M Technology Company called the Herjavec Group.
If you know me at all, you would not be surprised to learn I jumped at the chance to meet him (and, yes, I know I look like a dork in the picture!)
Anyway, in that short 2 hours, I picked up a lot of gems from this guy. Here are a few quotes:
On how he went from $400K his first year in business to $5M just 5 years later: “I got tired of being small.” (!) and “My desire to grow was greater than my fear of rejection.”
On being a CEO of a company: “We’re given flaming turds and we make sunshine out of them.”
On being unique in the marketplace: “You must be able to communicate your USP (Unique Selling Proposition) in 30 seconds, and it must be unique to the person you’re talking to.”
I noticed a pattern in what he was saying. Over and over he was coming back to a few ideas that made him successful. They were: Sales, Desire, Commitment, Not Fearing Fear, and believe it or not, HAPPINESS.
That last one really struck me. I know he’s got way bigger issues than I ever deal with in my company, and yet he focused on happiness.
I’ve internalized his advice and it’s already had a huge impact on my business. I invite you to try it!
